Cardio exercise is a great ally in the difficult task of weight loss. Being overweight or obese can be the cause of many chronic illnesses, such as cancer, diabetes and heart disease.

The good news is that regular exercise is the one activity that can reduce the risk or even prevent, across the board, almost every chronic illness!

With winter upon us, the weather may prevent us from doing the necessary outdoor exercise required. This is where a gym can come in very handy because you can exercise in a variety of ways protected from the elements.

There are some Gym cardio exercises for losing weight:

  • Treadmill walking/running: Wear comfortable shoes that support the feet and foot arch. Also, you will need comfortable clothes so you can move without any problem. Running will help you lose weight by burning the most calories of any cardio activity. A good tip is to listen to music or exercise with someone else as this will help you keep motivated to run further even if you are tired.
     
  • Cycling: By cycling at least thirty minutes a day you will improve your endurance and lose weight. The recumbent bike has a bucket seat that suits those with lower back pain. Cycling is a very simple activity and an effective exercise to lose weight.
     
  • Cross Trainer: Using this machine is like jogging but without the impact! With virtually no impact, it’s safe on the joints and suitable for those with knee or hip pain.
     
  • Rowing: A total body workout! You do not have to spend much time on the rower to achieve excellent fitness and weight loss results!
